Founded in 2009

Élan French was established in 2009 by Steve Lai as an after-school academic French learning centre and French teaching service in Canada.

With over 10 years of French teaching excellence, we have become one of the leaders in French teaching services across Canada. Our students are confident and comfortable speaking and writing French in academic and everyday contexts.

French is spoken all over the world by more than 200 million people. In Canada, French is important because it is one of the official languages of our country and an in-demand skill for many professional roles.

That’s why at Élan French, many students began their French studies as early as 4 years old. We offer a range of programs and services, delivered both online and in-person, that are designed for students with different backgrounds and abilities.

Our Academic French and French Conversation and Public Speaking are for students in grades 1 to 12 in extended French, core French, French immersion and French private schools.

Both programs are taught during the school year (beginning of September to the end of June). It consists of 38 lessons, including an assessment (test) of student progress every 6 weeks.

We also offer Adult French and Business French to adults and professionals seeking to develop French language skills to help them excel in a competitive, global economy. Our English to French Translation service is perfect for businesses and organizations who need to accurately and error-free communicate their message to a French-speaking audience.

At Élan French, we understand that everyone has different learning needs, so we take the time to get to know every one of our students and create a learning path that’s right for them.

What separates us from other French teaching service centres in Canada?

The answer is simple. We care about our students and their success beyond the academic realm. In day schools, students start their French studies in grade 3 until grade 8, with the option of continuing throughout high school.

In today’s competitive, global world, being bilingual is important, particularly in Canada. For this reason, Élan French is not a service that complements French learning materials that day schools are currently teaching to students. Instead, we are an extension of students’ learning path that incorporates everyday contexts alongside the academic curriculum.

Our approach to teaching French works - a high learning excellence rate demonstrated among our current and past students. They significantly improve their school grades and self-confidence in French class at their day school. Students participate more in class, and many say they enjoy learning French.

Our current and past students

We are very proud of our current and past students who all achieved French excellence in their studies. Our students come from different elementary and high schools and we have demonstrated this by adding below a list of schools they are attending or have attended.
